A Rigorous and Applied Research Agenda 

Biology Education Research (BER) is a scientific discipline that applies theories and methods from the learning sciences, cognitive psychology, and social sciences to understand and improve how biology is taught and learned. Our research program is organized around four interconnected themes: inclusive and equitable STEM learning, educational technology and learning design, AI literacy in higher education, and the development of future science educators. Across these areas, we use qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods approaches.
